Prague: Let's Just Keep Going; Washing machine

We spent the past three nights in Prague, which is an absolutely beautiful city. We were both in love with it! The city looks like the setting for some kind of medieval movie.

We went to see Prague Castle, which is old and historic. To get to it, you have to walk up a huge hill and what feels like a million steps. the view from the top was gorgeous! Unfortunately, it was raining so Nadia and I got a little bit damp. But who needs umbrellas?

The Castle is home to a huge cathedral, which was absolutely incredible. These pictures were taken on my phone so they're not that clear. Sorry!

After the Castle we were wet and cold, so we decided to fill up on some hearty Czech fare. I had roasted pork with cabbage, potato dumplings, and bread dumplings. Nadia had sausages served with boiled potatoes. We both had beer - of course! Beer in the Czech Republic is SO good and cheap. Most of the time huge glasses of beer cost around 32 crowns, which is about $1.50. This beer was 14% alcohol!

We also had a nice Americanized lunch of bagel sandwiches. I got a turkey BLT with mushroom soup. And beer, of course.

After lunch we went to see Old Town Square. Like all of Prague, it was extremely picturesque. Near the central monument were candles in memoriam, apparently to a few young athletes who passed away. We weren't able to figure out whot hey were, but obviously their deaths had a big impact in Prague.

We wandered around Prague a lot - it's a pretty small city and very walkable, except for the rain. We got lost many, many times ("Where are we?" "I don't know...." "Let's just keep going.") but always eventually ended up where we needed to be. I enjoyed a watermelon soda, which came with a huge slice of real watermelon! mmm.

Toward the end of our stay we went to see the "Dancing House," named because of its unique architecture. There's me!

That night we went out on the town. In preparation we purchased one bottle of white wine, two large cans of beer, and two Magnums. All this was only $9! In the US Magnums are really expensive, but in Europe they cost $1.50-2. I think I got Nadia hooked - I blame Rachel Bilson.

We met some Czech guys while we were out (don't worry, we're always careful!). One of them only knew one English word: Washing machine. Nevertheless, we got along just fine. You'd be surprised how many different uses "washing machine" has.

That's it for now! Next update from Barcelona, and then I head to Turin!

xo,
R
